RAINBOW BRIDGE
FIONA

Fiona came to me on March 1st, 2009. I was told ahead of time by her foster mommy, Deb, that Fiona makes a lot of weird sounds...boy does she!! I called her my little half elephant. She would make a sound like an elephant all the time, kind of how when a person would sigh, she makes elephant sounds. Especially if I was telling her something that she wasn't happy about. I think she was a little person trapped in a bulldog body. I was told by Deb what a sweet girl she is. She ended up being the sweetest little girl I've ever met. Fiona loved to go for car rides. When I would get home from work, if I had errands to run, we would hop in the car and she'd go with me. She loved taking trips to Petsmart to get her hair and nails done. There's no way you could rush Fiona along, you have to move at her pace. People would stop and laugh as they'd see this thick little bulldog walking through with her pink toe nails. She always received compliments on how pretty she was and everyone wanted to pet her. I have nephews that are 5 & 7; she loved when they would come over. She would sit on the couch and watch them play video games. Fiona didn't like hugs, but she would give her mommy & Grandma kisses. She showed me every night how thankful she was to have been rescued. We would sit on the couch watching TV and she'd give that elephant sound then put one paw on my arm and start climbing up my side until she could reach my neck and give me kisses from my neck all the way up to my forehead. There was no way I could push her away, she was too strong. She would stop when she felt she gave enough kisses. She would also do this about 6 or 7 times throughout the evening. Fiona passed away December 20th. She had an enlarged heart and blood & water in her lungs. They did an autopsy and found out she had the beginning of pancreatic cancer. Thankfully the heart problem took her before she had to endure any pain from the cancer. I miss her very much. She was a perfect little match for me. I love her more than I ever imagined I would. A rescue is the next kind of dog I want. They give back so much love because they are able to realize they've finally been rescued. Deb, thank you so much for bringing her into my life.
Farewell Porter
With great sadness and heavy hearts, Indiana Bulldog Rescue says goodbye to Porter who recently crossed the bridge. All of us at IBR will hold him in our hearts until we meet again on the other side.
Porter had epilepsy and was surrendered only after his family stopped medicating him and just left him in the garage to have unattended seizures. When we picked him up Porter was covered in urine and was very lethargic. When they heard about the new foster brought into rescue, Eleida and Brian wanted to meet him. Porter stole their hearts from the moment they met. So, he got a new sis Charlotte, an English mastiff, and two new brothers Satchel and Jesse, both bulldogs.
After Porter became a member of their family on May 5th 2008, they went to work with their vet to get the right dosage of medication to stop the seizures. Just in case Porter did have a seizure during the day his family dropped him off at the vets for daycare where he was treated like a star by staff and clients. Over time, Porter's seizures came under control, and his energy level increased.
One of his favorite things was to spoon with his mommy. Eleida believes no one ever cuddled with him, so he just didn't know how. When Eleida took Porter for his first walk it took almost 45 minutes to get around the block. We laughed so much about that. It also took him awhile to discover the joy of playing with toys. His first toy was a ball. Eleida and family were so ecstatic about this big step that they sent us a cell phone video of Porter romping and stomping for the first time. Because of his meds Porter was a little slow so he had a hard time figuring out doors. He would always go to the hinge side and wait to go out. Porter was a very special boy and became a big part of their family. Brian and Eleida poured their heart and soul into Porter and gave him a love that all bullies should know.
Porter developed an ear infection and was put on steroids to treat his condition. Sadly, they think it was the combination of steroids and seizure meds that caused his liver to fail. They are heartbroken from their loss. Please say a little prayer for Porter and his grieving family as he makes his journey across the rainbow bridge to wait for his family to come join him.
