April 23, 2010 - Chopper's Story!

A few weeks ago, our director, Deb, received an email about an English Bulldog who was found in Northern Indiana. He had been hanging out at the retirement center for several days, eating all the goodies that were given to him. A very kind policeman went to pick him up and took the lost boy into his home for the night then called us at Indiana Bulldog Rescue.

He was your typical big, friendly and gorgeous Bulldog. We hopped in the truck and went straight to the vet to get scanned for a micro-chip. While he was being ooh’d & ahh’d over, the tech scanned him and low and behold, he had a Home Again micro-chip. She went out of the room for what seemed like forever and when she returned she said "His name is Chopper and he was stolen 1 1/2 years ago from Central Indiana.  We have his owner on the phone." You can only imagine the tears of joy that were flowing in that room. His owner was overwhelmed and in a state of disbelief that after all this time, his Chopper was alive and appeared to be healthy and happy.

Chopper got a bath and slept peacefully on the couch while waiting for his family to come get him. He seemed to remember them as his big butt was just a-wiggling when he saw them! He has since found his old spot under the bushes, relaxing while being back home again!!

Deb and Indiana Bulldog Rescue would like to thank the girls at Noah’s Landing Pet Care Clinic for scanning him and notifying his owner. Huge kudos to Chris, who gratefully picked up Chopper and to Chris' wife, Sarah, who emailed diligently and kept communications going while we got the details all sorted out.

Please remember to micro-chip your pets!  Hopefully you will never have to use it, but if you do, there is hope. Chopper is the perfect example of a happy ending!
